Read my review of Quadlock’s Motorcycle Phone Mount to see if it’s the right fit for you!
About Quadlock
Quadlock is an Australian company that was created in 2011 for cycling mounts. Many years later, Quadlock has now made a name for it itself with mount for bicycles, cars, motorcycles, and more!
I learned about Quadlock right after buying my RAM motorcycle phone mount when I saw some rider friends with it. They talked a lot about how it helped with the vibration so I was intrigued, but of course already had my RAM motorcycle mount when I had got my starter bike.
However, after my phone went flying off my motorbike after a mere speed bump, I decided it was time to make the big switch. I purchased my Quadlock in November 2022 and will add updates as I use the motorcycle phone mount more and more.
Features
In order to get your Quadlock to work, you need to have a matching phone case, which works a bit like a jigsaw puzzle with the mount that goes on the bike. You will need to insert your phone sideways, and once the mechanisms line up, the phone slides and clicks into place.
The structure seems very secure actually, and I find it difficult to imagine the phone coming loose from the lock in place. It is a bit annoying to have to have the phone case instead of being able to use your own, but I do love not having to worry about the mount accidentally pushing my phone side buttons and going into emergency mode.
Different options
The Quadlock motorcycle mount can be attached to your motorbike in one of three ways:
- Handlebar mount
- Fork stem mount
- Mirror mount
All of the options have different pros and cons. Both the handlebar and the fork stem versions also have a Pro version available, which are made of a tougher material and have a hidden cable route if you want to plug your phone with USB.
I opted for the fork stem mount, as I thought it would be the most stable with the least vibration, plus I wanted some handlebar space reserved for an action camera. The fork stem mount works well, although at least on my bike, you have to place it just right so that it doesn’t obscure your view of the speedometer. Additionally, I’ve noticed that when driving I have to tilt my head down in order to see the navigation on my phone. These are things to consider if you go for the fork stem mount option.
Design
The design is very customizable so you can really build your own setup, which I love. Some of the features that Quadlock has are:
- Vibration dampener – Helps your phone to vibrate a bit less (and thus not destroy your camera)
- Weather resistant poncho – A pouch that goes over your phone case to protect from extreme weather
- Wireless charger – The wireless charger allows your phone to sit on top and charge without having to be plugged in.
Note: You still have to plug the wireless charger itself into your motorcycle battery. There IS an on/off button so you aren’t just constantly draining your bike’s battery - USB Charger – Another option to charge your phone. It isn’t wireless, but it provides a charging port closer to your phone so you can connect more easily to your bike battery
- Knuckle adapter – Allows you to pivot the mount at different angles
- Spacers – used for additional clearance for the mount if needed
Colors
Depending on the pieces you choose, you’re able to choose the color of the ring on your phone case and the lever on the actual mount. The lever comes in black, white, red, or blue. The phone ring has other colors such as red, blue green, pink, orange, although I wish they had a neon green as an option, especially with so many people having motorcycles in Kawasaki green. I also don’t really understand why the lever doesn’t have the same variety of colors as the phone case.
Durability
So far, water hasn’t seemed to be an issue, either for the mount or for my phone. I did buy a screen protector separately for my phone, but the case holds up pretty well. If anything, I find it very difficult to remove.
Quadlock also has the option to add a weather proof cover to your phone, but so far I haven’t really seen the need for it.
The only complaint I have is that my wireless charger has already been stolen once already, and I’m not sure how to stop it from being stolen again. It is very easy to take off, but it is too much work to put it on and back off every single day after my commute. I also don’t wish to glue it in case I ever need to remove it, so I wish there was a better way to avoid theft or maybe a special Quadlock tool that screws it into place.
The camera vibration issue
Another problem I had with my RAM mount, was that my phone camera was destroyed after using it on the bike once after a long travel away from my bike. When this happens, it seems as if the lens is underwater, or at least is rippling as if there is water damage. This is a common issue that motorcyclists experience and companies like RAM and Quadlock are trying to create vibration dampeners to help with this.
I have the Quadlock vibration dampener, and so far the camera is fine. The phone does still vibrate of course, and once on a several day motorcycle trip I started having problems with my camera. The camera would focus in and out, and if it was choosing when to take the photo or start the video, and not allowing me to press anything. However, I simply turned the phone off and back on and the problem disappeared. So far I have not had any other problems.
Final thoughts
All in all, I’m very happy to have switched over to Quadlock. I wish there were more color options, but I’m confident that the company will keep developing new designs and options in the future. The mount feels really sturdy and I’m happy that I no longer have to worry about my motorcycle phone mount accidentally pressing side buttons while I’m driving. I hope that Quadlock will consider some anti-theft add-ons for the future.
Where to buy
You can buy directly online at the Quadlock store, so as to ensure that you have all the pieces that you’re wanting. You can also usually find it at local motorcycle retailers.
