Motorcycle Routes of Tenerife
1. Best of Tenerife
Costa Adeje –> Teide –> La Orotava –> Puerto de la Cruz –> Garachico –> Los Gigantes
This route takes you to all the most important sights on the island. When you’re limited on time, it’s a great route to see the majority of Tenerife in one day.
The ride starts by taking you up to the iconic Teide National Park. On the way there, you’ll have views of the ocean and climb up curves through beautiful pine forests. Once you reach Teide, you’ll be driving through lava fields and can pull over in many places to have a photo stop.
As you continue on past the tourism office, you’ll find a nice restaurant where you can sit outside and treat yourself to lunch or a coffee.
On your way down the mountain, you can make a stop in La Orotava to explore the town then head on towards Puerto de la Cruz.
Spend some time exploring Puerto de la Cruz or relaxing on the beaches, then make your way over to Garachico, a popular beach spot. The route back to the southern part of the island takes you up and over more forests, with many winding curves.
If you time it right, you should reach Los Gigantes right before sunset and can enjoy the spectacular views.
Check out my experience on this specific route here.
2. Masca Valley
Costa Adeje -> Los Gigantes -> Masca -> Teno -> Playa Puertito -> Garachico
This route starts in Costa Adeje and takes you on a quick stop in Los Gigantes to admire the cliffs before heading up the mountain towards Masca Valley. Admire the views as you climb up and stop for lunch at one of the restaurants lining the route.
The way down will have very sharp curves but also many cars trying to slowly descend as well.
On the way down, you can attempt to go towards Punta de Teno. However, the highway there is only open before 10 am or after 7 pm, otherwise you’ll have to walk yourself if you have the time. If not, you can head towards Playa Puertito for a natural beach. These style of beaches are called ‘charcos‘ and are natural swimming pools! Afterwards, you can head over to another beach at Garachico to have a drink before heading back up.
3. Anaga and Taganana
Costa Adeje –> La Laguna –> Anaga & Mercedes Forest –> Playa Benijo –> Playa Las Teresitas –> Tajao
A picturesque route that will take you through some beautiful forest roads and visiting amazing beaches for surfers on the island. Definitely one of the coolest motorcycle routes of Tenerife!
Start the ride by heading towards La Laguna, where you can stop for a coffee and walk around the town viewing all the historic buildings.
From La Laguna, you’ll head into Anaga Park, full of twisty roads and amazing viewpoints. Sometimes the road can be a bit wet or full of fog, so drive accordingly! As you’re heading down through Taganana towards the beach you may see some pockets on sand on the road as well so be extremely careful on these roads.
After driving through Taganana, you’ll reach Playa Benijo, which is one of the most beautiful beaches and best surfing posts on the island. Hang out on the beach for as long as you like, then climb back over and down the mountain to reach Playa Las Teresitas. Here the beach is a bit more commercial but you can find a few nice seaside restaurants to enjoy lunch.
Finally, on the way back down south, stop in the village of Tajao to enjoy a drink on the beach.
4. Tenerife Southeast
Costa Adeje -> El Médano -> Güimar -> Arafo -> Las Lagunetas -> La Esperanza -> Costa Adeje
This motorcycle route starts in Costa Adeje and takes you through some of the most beautiful towns and scenic mountain routes in Tenerife. Start your journey by heading to El Médano, a small fishing village known for windsurfing and kitesurfing, where you can stop for a coffee at one of the beachside cafes and take in the stunning views of the ocean.
Next, head towards Güimar, a charming town with a rich history and architecture. Take a stroll through the old town and stop for lunch at one of the local restaurants to try some traditional Canarian dishes.
Continue your journey towards Arafo, passing through banana plantations and picturesque countryside landscapes. Take a break at the scenic viewpoint of La Centinela and enjoy the panoramic views of the island’s eastern coast. From there, head up into the mountains towards Las Lagunetas, where you can stop for a drink at one of the cozy cafes nestled among the pine trees.
As you make your way towards La Esperanza, the road will take you through stunning landscapes and past the majestic Mount Teide. Take a break at the Mirador de La Crucita, a scenic viewpoint with stunning views of the Orotava Valley and the coastline. Finally, arrive in La Esperanza, a picturesque village known for its traditional architecture and beautiful gardens. Stop for a drink if you want and then head back to Costa Adeje or to your next destination!
5. La Gomera
San Sebastián de la Gomera -> Majona -> Playa Hermigua -> Arure -> Valle Gran Rey -> Garajonay -> Roque de Agando -> San Sebastián de la Gomera
Although there are many amazing motorcycle routes of Tenerife, head over to La Gomera for a change of scenery!
La Gomera is a neighboring island near Tenerife and is known for its hills and forests, making it a favorite of motorcyclists. The most common way to see the island by motorbike is by taking a ferry from Los Cristianos to San Sebastián in the morning, driving the motorcycle around for the day before catching the ferry back that evening.
This route takes you through beaches, mountains, and all around national parks. Start early in the morning to see it all, visiting Majona park and the beautiful beach at Hermigua. Stop in Arure for a local Canarian lunch, then head back to San Sebastián for more sights and to catch the ferry back to Tenerife.
