There is a plethora of amazing motorcycle routes in Gran Canaria, which is why it’s one of my favorite places to ride!

What is Gran Canaria?
Gran Canaria, one of the largest of the Canary Islands, is a Spanish island located off the coast of Morocco, nestled in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean. With diverse scenery, lush forests, volcanic formations, and gorgeous beaches, Gran Canaria and Canary Islands in general are truly a gem and a motorcyclist’s paradise.
When is the best time to visit Gran Canaria?
The weather in Gran Canaria is fairly warm all year round. Sometimes in the early spring and late fall you may run into some rain so prepare accordingly. It can also get very hot and crowded in the summer months, but you’ll still need a jacket in the higher elevations year round.
Where to stay in Gran Canaria
You will likely stay in the city of Las Palmas, but I also recommend staying somewhere up inland so you aren’t rushing your motorcycle ride to get down to the city.
Sercotel Playa Canteras – Hotel right off the main beach in Las Palmas, closely connected to restaurants and shops, with a rooftop pool and many rooms with ocean views! Highly recommend this place if you’re looking in Las Palmas
Parador de Cruz de Tejeda – this one is high up inland, but offers absolutely iconic views (seriously, look at this pool view!) and a world class spa. It’s a perfect spot to do some hiking, or as a break during your motorcycle trip so you don’t have to go all the way back down the mountain.
Where to rent a motorcycle in Gran Canaria, Spain?
I recently rented from Canary Rides in Las Palmas and it was a great experience! Not only do they have a variety of bikes for different riders, but each bike is equipped with a phone holder + charger. The helmet and gloves are included, with jackets being a small, extra cost, but the quality of the gear is really great, which isn’t always the case in rental shops. They also have a shop on the nearby island of Tenerife, another amazing place to ride!

Motorcycle Routes in Gran Canaria
There are so many different variations of routes you can do in Gran Canaria, most of which depend on how much time you have. I’ve included 5 fun motorcycle routes in Gran Canaria, as well as an example 2 day itinerary (listed below).
1. GC-200: Coastal views and curves to Agaete
Embark on this curvy, slightly terrifying but beautiful highway along the coast . As you navigate its serpentine curves, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the rugged cliffs that define Gran Canaria’s coastline.
2. GC-60: The Valley of Fataga
Maspalomas is one of the top destinations on the island, for its beaches and sand dunes. It’s also a great place to connect with the inland curvy roads, with amazing views of the landscape and rides through traditional Canarian towns.
3. GC-500: Maspalomas to Puerto de Mogán
This route takes you along the best beaches the southern part of the island has to offer. There’s a highway connecting to the two cities, but the smaller road is curvier and more scenic. It ends in Puerto de Mogán, which is known as “Little Venice” for its canals, bridges, and cute town.
4. GC-150: Route to Pico de las Nieves
Up in higher elevation, you can take this route for birds’ eye views of the entire island, making your way up to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point on the island. It’s a gorgeous ride through vast forests, providing a welcome change from the otherwise volcanic scenery, and maybe people head up to Pico de las Nieves to watch the sunset.
5. GC-606: The Green North
Another route that takes you through winding roads and impressive views. There are lot of fun curves on this road but beware of sand patches and gravel. It ends at Roque Nublo, another very famous landmark of Gran Canaria.
2 day motorcycle itinerary for Gran Canaria Example
Here’s an example route for a 2 day motorcycle trip in Gran Canaria. It’s a bit rushed, but shows you most of what the island has to offer!
Day 1
Start in Las Palmas to rent your motorcycle
Head along the coast via Agaete and enjoy the curves along the water
Stop at the viewpoints (miradors) to soak in the scenery and take photos
Eat lunch in one of the restaurants en route
Head down to Puerto Mogán, and spent the night there. Enjoy amazing views of the sunset on the water!
Day 2
Head along the coast, taking GC-500 (not the one on the above map) before heading inland towards higher elevation
Stop at Roque Nublo and then head onwards towards Parador de Cruz de Tejeda for lunch with a view
Climb up to Pico de las Nieves, the highest point in the island, before beginning your descent
Have a quick afternoon coffee in Teror, a nice historical village
Enjoy views of Las Palmas as you head back down
Tips for Motorcyclists in Gran Canaria:
- Changing weather: The weather in Gran Canaria changes vastly depending on where you are on the island. You may be sweating and taking off layers while in the southern part in low elevation, but then regretting it once you climb up to Roque Nublo and your fingers are frozen. Dress with layers in mind!
- Sharp curves: Some roads in Gran Canaria have extremely sharp curves where only one car can fit at a time. Not a problem on a motorcycle of course, unless they can’t see you. Be cautious around these curves and maybe honk to alert someone on the other side that you’re there.
Safe riding!
