There are many bucket list motorcycle roads of the US, from coast to coast and desert to mountains. Use this post as a bucket list, and try to mark them all off!
Bucket List Motorcycle Roads of the US
1. Pacific Coast Highway (California)
The Pacific Coast Highway, otherwise known as CA 1, in California is one of the nation’s most scenic roads and a great experience on a motorcycle. The road officially starts in Dana Point, in Orange County, and ends in Leggett, California, at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 101. From there, you can continue on Highway 101 through Oregon and Washington, which is also a really scenic ride!
2. Tail of the Dragon (North Carolina/Tennessee)
Although a short ride, the Tail of the Dragon is one of the most famous motorcycle roads in the US! This road starts in the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina and continues across the border into Tennessee. It’s 11 miles long, full of tons of curves and switch backs. Head there in the fall to experience the beautiful autumn colors of the trees!
3. Beartooth Highway (Montana/Wyoming)
Beartooth Highway, located in the states of Montana and Wyoming, is an amazing ride that every motorcyclist should do once in their life. As you climb up the mountains, the air gets colder and colder, until you’re surrounded by snow and ice patches, even in the height of summer! There are tons of curves and breathtaking views both going up and coming down. Stop in Red Lodge, Montana at the end for some lunch and quick shopping.
4. Going-to-the-Sun Road (Montana)
Located in Glacier National Park, Going-to-the-Sun Road is a 50-mile route that offers breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. As you ride, you’ll see turquoise blue lakes, mountain views, and an amazing turns through tunnels carved into the mountainside. Look out for wildlife as you ride, such as mountain goats and bighorn sheep!
Glacier National Park does get crowded though, and sometimes requires a reservation or is closed to due to inclement weather. Check out the National Park Website before attempting this road!
5. Blue Ridge Parkway (Virginia/North Carolina)
Blue Ridge Parkway is a beautiful road stretching 469 miles through the Appalachian Mountains from Virginia to North Carolina. There are tons of amazing viewpoints, and the long and winding road is a good time for any motorcycle lover. The fall is a great time to do this ride as well, as you’ll see lots of the beautiful fall foliage.
6. Route 66 (Multiple States)
Route 66 is an internationally renowned road for the bucket list. You don’t have to do the whole way from Chicago to Los Angeles, but it sure would be fun if you do! This ride takes you across multiple states and sights in the US, such as the Grand Canyon and the Gateway Arch of St. Louis. Definitely a motorcyclist’s dream.
7. Scenic Byway 12 (Utah)
Scenic Byway 12, is a stretch of 123 miles through Utah. There is plenty to see, as this road passes through Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and over Boulder Mountain in the Dixie National Park. You’ll be treated to views of amazing rock formations and red arches, while you conquer some awesome winding roads.
8. Pig Trail (Arkansas)
One of the country’s hidden gems, the Ozarks in Arkansas are a must-do if you’re ever in the area!
Most people don’t usually think of motorcycle riding when they think of Arkansas, but they definitely should! There are tons of fun and windy roads all throughout the Northwestern part of the state, and weekends are full of local riders just enjoying the ride. Pig Trail, the most famous road in the area, is a scenic byway 19 miles long and an absolute must-do.
9. Twisted Sisters (Texas)
This motorcycle road in the US is actually a set of THREE country ranch roads that make up a 100 mile loop known as the Twisted Sisters. The road winds through canyons with amazing views, right in the Texas Hill Country.
10. Seven Mile Bridge (Florida)
Although not a fun, curvy ride like others on this list, the road down to Key West, including the Seven Mile Bridge, is one for the bucket list!
This Seven Mile Bridge is located near the end of the Florida Keys and goes right over the Gulf of Mexico. You’ll have turquoise blue water on either side and a nice ocean breeze as you ride. There are lots of cool stops to do on the way down to Florida Keys, and many other motorcyclists to mingle with.
